Tomi and Casey | Twin Lakes Sunrise Engagement

On an early September morning this past fall, I met Tomi and Casey up at Twin Lakes near Leadville for an amazing sunrise session.

Twin Lakes is one of my favorite places here in the state of Colorado – it’s an easily accessible location that is just a few hours outside of Denver. Colorado’s largest peak, Mt. Elbert, booms in the background at 14,439′. Every time I’ve been in this area for sunrise, we get an amazing alpenglow and the whole hillside turns a shade of pink and purple.

This morning was no exception – we got an amazing alpenglow and sunrise. We started out by the water, which is always chilly, but always worth it! To join us after a few minutes of photographing, their Bischon Frise ran ever so cutely towards Tomi and Casey. I’m always partial to Bischons, that was our family dog we had for 16+ years growing up. They’re such sweet little pups.

Once the sun began to rise over the horizon, we headed back into the fields underneath Mt. Elbert. Fall time in Twin Lakes means yellow everywhere, from the ground foliage to the lining aspens.

To end our time together, we headed just a few miles up Independence Pass to the riverfront. This area has some of the coolest milky-teal waters that I’ve seen. There must be a mineral that is in the nearby rocks, as the water is unlike any other teal I’ve personally experienced here in Colorado. To add to the amazing-ness of this area, Tomi’s freaking stunning orange jumpsuit popped against the mountains and aspens. I still feel as I told her that morning, I think she should be a model for the manufacturing company… that outfit was made for her!!

With Covid-19, we may be celebrating Tomi and Casey’s nuptials a little later than expected at Spruce Mountain Ranch. Only time will tell what will happen here in Colorado for larger wedding gatherings, but I’ll be here anxiously awaiting the day we get to celebrate and dance our hearts out!
