Every Monday and Friday, I go dance my tush off at Lifetime Fitness. I’m sure I look like a fool, but I absolutely love it. There’s quite a few of us who are “Dance Jam” fanatics, Michelle being one of them. One morning, Michelle and I began talking a little about what we do outside the gym. Come to find out, her husband, John, is not only a photographer himself, but he knows my in-laws quite well and photographed my husband’s senior photographs back in the 90s. After a long conversation about lenses, digital photography, and the photographic world in general, John asked if we could all meet over brunch to discuss his daughter’s wedding. We met at the Ale House that weekend, and it was such a pleasure to meet Lauren and Brady.

Lauren and Brady are both CPAs, so just a few short days after eating quite a bit of bacon we headed into the Brainard lake area to hike out to Long Lake for their engagement session before their busy season approached. I know sometimes I sound absolutely crazy when I mention a sunrise engagement session, but there really is something quite magical about alpenglow. It was a blustering 30*, but Lauren and Brady were troopers and met my assistant and me at the crack of dawn (literally) as we walked into the dark in search of the lake. Just after we arrived, Apache Peak and Shoshoni Peak began to turn a deep pink and red with moose drinking water in the far off distance. It was absolutely stunning.

We walked the length of the Jean Lunning Loop, stopping in the wooded areas where the sun peeked out for some more photographs. The winds had been quite high in the recent days, making the trail a little rough. I’ve since learned to pack at least 3 pairs of Yak Trax for the off chance that a trail might be slick.

Thank you for adventuring out into the early morning hours in the middle of nowhere with me, Lauren and Brady. I am SO excited to photograph your Barn at Raccoon Creek wedding this upcoming July!
