Krisha and Alex’s Clear Lake Elopement Day

Krisha and Alex are adventurers at heart. They backpack together, rock climb, and enjoy being in the mountains with one another. When they were looking at a place to host their intimate elopement, they knew they wanted to incorporate the Colorado mountains. They also knew that having their family there was important to both of them. Insert Southern Colorado’s amazing 4×4 system.

In the Southwestern corner of the state, there is some of the best 4×4 roads in the entire country. Unlike places such as Moab, many of the trails are beginner/intermediate friendly. These trails take you to alpine lakes, mountain tops, and across passes that connect multiple small towns. Though you can indeed find those crazy difficult trails (hello Black Bear Pass), many are acceptable to bring family on. Clear Lake is one of those such roads where there are few obstacles to crawl over and the road gets you all the way to this stunning alpine lake. Weekends do get crowded, and sometimes weekdays you can still find quite a few people here. We ran into roughly 5 vehicles that were camping on their weekday morning wedding (one that was camping on the tundra which is a BIG NO NO, don’t be that person).

Once everyone got up to the lake, Alex headed out to a spot overlooking the cirque for their ceremony. Both Krisha and Alex were accompanied by their parents as they walked down the “aisle”. One of the couple’s good friends presided over their alpine meadow ceremony, with many laughs and a few tears to be had by all.

July is a magical time in Colorado’s high country. We were greeted with fields of wildflowers in every direction – including massive amounts of Columbines. Know that angles can be deceiving, as we were very careful not to step on any of these stunning flowers. Many times there’s trails that lead through the wildflowers, or bare patches that I can likely hide with angles and a little photoshop magic.

To cap off their elopement day, we all headed to the nearby town of Durango for a privately catered meal and board games. Though I was INCREDIBLY confused at the game that they were playing, Krisha and Alex have a group of friends that all play board games together and looked to be having an amazing time. I have no idea who won, how, or if there even is a winner to be had.

Thank you again for inviting me along on your beautiful elopement day, Krisha and Alex!

Cheers-
